A Bit of Honey Artisanal Pottery

I have always enjoyed a "diy" kind of life, born to parents that attacked everything they did with vigor and joy.

I love gardening, design, sewing and yes, pottery. Some forty odd years ago at a craft fair I watched a man pull a Raku load from the ground, while smoke rose from each piece. The variations of colors on those pots fascinated me. Fast forward forty years
2019 was a difficult year personally, my husband suffered a heart incident which resulted in two small strokes and bypass surgery. I soon discovered I had thyroid cancer and needed surgery. There was then the complete blur of all our lives with the covid outbreak. In a little more than a year, I had surgery again and treatment for melanoma skin cancer.
During all these changes I had already made up my mind, (If we ever were able to leave our post-covid homes) I indeed would not go back to work in sales. I was pretty solid on that decision too. It was also at this time I searched for a friend who I knew likely had opened her pottery studio. I began taking classes and fell in love. The complete disregard for everything outside of that studio door while I created my wares, was quite satisfying.

As soon as I sank my hands into the clay each class, I knew it is where I was supposed to be. The first day I went to class, I held no expectations, had no idea what was about to happen. I know it was divinely inspired and allowed to happen. As everything for my own studio fell into place in a way I could never have done on my own. My talented husband who also attacks projects with determination and natural ability, was a tremendous help. My daughter-in-law & her amazing skills, she listened to what I wanted and created a beautiful business card and logo for me. Friends encouraged and lent their support and ideas.
I decided right away, I want this place to be a refuge from the world. I want people to come in and feel a sense of relief at the smell of clay, the sight of brushes on the counter, the feel of the birch wood on the wedging table. I want them to study their pieces in the sunlight for nuances of color that appear, revel in the shape and scope of their ability and feel the joy of bringing a creation to fruition.

I provide hand building & *wheel classes.  I have a gallery room for you to shop, by appointment and I am making decisions for a website that will be coming soon.
For the time being I am on facebook.com/leisacrossleypotter and Instagram, same moniker.

I encourage you to plan a morning or afternoon to join us. Get your hands in the clay, relax and allow the worries of the world to drift away. Live joyfully friends.

*I require a private, 2 hr "Introduction to wheel" class before you get on the wheel. Wheels are expensive, it's a steep learning curve for most people & I have found people do better when they've had some time w/no one else here but myself. It gives you confidence at the start. Wheel is very satisfying and it's my very favorite but it does take a time commitment and some strength. If you are attending class only once every 6 or 7 weeks, it's probably not for you.

  1. I'm probably looking right at it, but I didn't see prices.
